Interstate state park

while kayaking down the St. croix river, we stopped for lunch on some riverside rocks where we made friends with a hungry chipmunk, who enjoyed our pull-apart twizzlers and pre-made sandwiches. who knew chipmunks love highly processed foods!

we also made friends with a small clean looking cat who had approached us at our campfire. She was well taken care of and friendly. we contacted the park ranger who did not seem to care and was not helpful, and the little kitten would not leave our site, so we were either going to take her to a humane society or bring her home as our new pet, named Smokey - an honor to her color and our meeting at the campfire. however, while loading her into the car, she had gotten away and ran into the woods, where she watched us and would no longer let us recapture her, so we made the tough decision to leave her be. i hope she is well.
